Finally Finished!

As of yesterday I finally finished painting the letter's of Baby Q's name.  It took several weeks of me staying up late while everyone else was in bed but I was finally able to complete it and hung it on the wall today.  It's pretty much exactly like Y's name (which I swore I'd never do again but since they're sharing a room it didn't leave me much of an option) except I used a turquoise base coat instead of lavender.  Here's the Q and the Y from their names so you can see their similarities and differences.

Now that I have fully completed one project I just have to work on completing the other two, which have been in progress at the same time as I was painting her name.  Hopefully I'll have pictures of those posted soon because my time is winding down!

Why Quinn??

Ever since we found out the gender of our baby everyone wants to know what we're going to name her.  I always respond with, "Quinn."  We knew shortly after finding out we were pregnant that if the baby was a girl, her name would be Quinn, so there was no big surprise or hesitation on our part.  However, after hearing what we plan to name her I typically receive a second question:  "are you naming her after the girl from Glee?"  This question always caught me off guard no matter how many times it was asked, mostly because I had never watched the show and had no idea there was a girl named Quinn on the show!  But the question peaked my curiosity and so I turned on Netflix and started watching.  I completed the entire first season in just under a week - I loved the show.  But...I would never name my child after a character on a TV show and certainly not one who found herself pregnant in high school by her boyfriend's best friend and then spends half the pregnancy lying to the boyfriend about it.  But I must add, I really did like the show which is evident because I finished 22 episodes in less than a week!

So for anyone left wondering, "Why Quinn?" here goes.

When we first moved here to Metro Detroit I discovered a road named Dequindre (pronounced: Dee-quinn-der).  It's a fairly busy road which covers a lot of ground around here, but that's neither here nor there.  Basically B and I were driving one day and upon passing the street sign on the highway I told B, "if we ever have a little boy I'd love to name him Dequindre."  B's reply was simply that he liked the name "if we didn't live here."  I agreed that it probably wouldn't be a good fit because everyone would probably ask him why he was named after a street or find some way to make fun of him because of it.  (With that said, if we ever move Dequindre would definitely be an option.  Well, maybe not with a sister named Quinn.  Bummer!)  And so since Dequindre was out I set my eyes on Quinn for a little boy but over time I decided that I loved the name for a little girl too.  And so began my petition to convince B that we should name one of our children Quinn.  And if you're wondering, yes this was decided long before Y was born but Y's name has been on my list since I was a teenager and I knew that the first little girl I had would get that name in case I never had another little girl.

I must be honest and admit that TV may have had a partial role in assuring our little girl will be named Quinn though.  B was never big on the name until a female character named Quinn was introduced on one of his favorite shows, One Tree Hill.  Even after that it took a little convincing, but he finally agreed that it was okay for a little girl.  For a boy he wasn't having it, he wanted either Quinten or Quincy which both happen to be names that I don't like...go figure!

Appointment with the Nurse

On Wednesday,  Dec. 15th, I went in to see the nurse at my OBGYN's office.  I did the same when pregnant with Y and basically the purpose of this visit is to go over all my medical history and immediate family medical history.  Since we had done the bulk of that during my initial visit when I was pregnant before this time was just updating any changes that have occurred since then, including adding all sorts of information regarding the pregnancy and birth of Y.  Fortunately that didn't take too long and we were able to move along to the other aspects of the visit.  I had to give a urine sample as well as a few vials of blood which, among other things, they will use to do a early random blood glucose test.

While having my blood drawn my Dr. stopped and asked me how my blood pressures and blood glucose readings have been and well, the truth is that whereas I have been testing my sugar levels an average of twice a day, it's not really good enough since I'm supposed to do it 4 times a day and I haven't been doing blood pressure checks at all.  So I definitely need to get on the ball and be more consistent with that.

Other than giving me a bunch of stuff to read over regarding genetics testing (which we have no plans of doing) and a bunch of other information which I still have from my nurse's visit while pregnant with Y, there wasn't a whole lot to tell about that visit.  We go for our first appointment with the OBGYN on Jan. 4th and I am super excited because we'll get to see him/her for the first time via ultrasound.  And as a heads up:  You'll likely here me refer to this baby as Q throughout this pregnancy.  I have decided that I like the name Quinn for a boy or for a girl so to me gender doesn't matter and I figure that if I just keep referring to him/her as Quinn then it will start to grow on B too.  Hope my plan works ;)

It's All In How You Say It!

On the way to church today B and I were having a conversation and I really have no idea how it started but I think I said something to the effect of, "we'd better have all girls because we can't agree on any boy names." Then I believe he said that I like weird names (which may be partially true). Anyhow I went on to say his famous quote that he always told me before we found out we were having a girl which is, "that's not a name, it's a word!" Now I believe this started because I liked the name Gage for a boy but spelled Gaje and then he said, "that's not a name it's a word!" Well I believe I told him that neither Gage nor Gaje were words, that he was thinking of gauge with a "U" and even though they sound the same are totally different. Anyways...so he goes on to say how people name their kids weird names like Apple so I jokingly said "we can have a little boy name Naranja" (which means orange in Spanish) he just rolled his eyes and said his other famous quote, "that's a HORRIBLE name." I laughed and ran with it so I went through all the colors that I know in Spanish until I reached Amarillo (yellow). When I got to this one I kind of paused for a second because I really liked it. And then I repeated it with this sexy Spanish accent and then it sounded really, really good so I told him that it would sound awesome to anyone that didn't speak Spanish (and it really would)! At that point B shouts out, "but what about those people that do speak Spanish" to which I had no reply. Going on from there I went to Verde (green) and though I didn't really like that one I then said Verdad (which means truth) and I paused again because I really like it! Actually would like to name my kid Verdad or Truth. I dunno what it is but I love the way Truth sounds as a name. Just my luck I'd name a kid Truth and he'd be a pathological liar. Anyway, we're not having any babies any time soon so I still have time to work on him...although I suspect that all the time in the world won't get him to agree to any of the names (or words) listed above. But then again...it's the mother that they give the birth certificate to ;-)

We're quite the couple, really, our conversations would probably keep people laughing constantly. We both tend to take things to the extreme...the in-betweens are boring!

What's In A Name?

Absolutely nothing!!!

With that said, I will tell you that I have finally decided on a name to refer to the baby as. Well at least until we find out what we're having and/or decide on a name (if it's a boy we're still clueless). Anyway, it's just a little nickname and B absolutely hates it. Call me ghetto (go ahead, I don't mind, I love my ghettoness) but I absolutely love it and think that it's funny. And besides, aren't nicknames supposed to be just that?!?! Anyway, the name is "Booger." I don't know why, it just popped into my head one day. And don't worry, I promise that I will not call the baby this after he/she is born, but I think this name is much more original than Peanut or something like that.

Eight Weeks Three Days!!!

Okay, so if you didn't already know, I am the most impatient person that you will ever meet!!!! I am 8wks 3 days as of right now and it seems like the next 31-32 weeks are going to take forever to get here. Don't get me wrong, I'm enjoying experiencing the whole pregnancy thing (probably because I'm still symptom-less) but I can't believe I have to wait until September. I am one of those people who doesn't want to wait for anything, but in this instance I have no control, and frankly I don't know how I feel about it. I know I shouldn't rush things because in the end all that I really want is a healthy, happy baby but knowing that and saying that really doesn't do much to increase the amount of patience that I have. I guess I'll be slightly more content when we find out the gender of the baby because then I can start buying stuff, and honestly nothing makes me more happy and content than shopping!

On a different note I thought I'd share some completely random information with you, so enjoy. The only cravings that I have really had have been for fruit and green beans mostly although broccoli is really yummy right now too (well yummier than normally). I've always enjoyed sleeping but I think I enjoy it even more so now than before. Cigarette smoke is even more appalling than before, in fact when I smell it that is about the only time I feel nauseas. I have a heightened since of smell and the guy who sits next to me in one of my classes has horrible breath. I really can't wait until I have a really big belly because I wanna laugh at Brandon having to cut my toe nails, just the thought of it makes me laugh. Although, I will inform him that if he doesn't want to do it, he doesn't have to...I'll just go pay $30 for a pedicure every time I need one...I think that will convince him. B is so cute, whenever I don't want to eat or he doesn't feel like I've eaten enough he'll say, "But what about the baby?" He also always says goodnight to the baby before going to sleep each night. We have a name picked out for a girl and half of a name for a boy. For a girl, her name will be I. J. Fox for a boy it'll be Elian _______ Fox, (we can't agree on a middle name) all that we can really agree on is that we want it to be a Hispanic name. In fact I think I'll add a new poll to the site for you all to vote on, I'll include the middle names that I like and see which of those you all like the best. I think I'll do that now, so let us know what you think! Oh and if you have any suggestions feel free to leave them in the comment section, but chances are if it's not a Hispanic name, we probably won't use it. Although the name Andreas isn't Hispanic, it's more European, so who knows...just take the poll and leave whatever suggestions you have. 143
