Playtime

Q does not like to be left out!  No matter what the activity is she finds a way to work herself into it, and I love it!  Y is okay with it most times but it depends on the activity. 

Recently Y has really started to spend a lot of time coloring which she likes to do while laying on the floor.  The problem with that is that Q is always rolling around on the floor (she's starting to attempt to get on her knees now too) and she always works herself over to wherever Y happens to be.  Q will then start grabbing the crayons, markers and the coloring book until Y will eventually get frustrated and move somewhere else.  It'll take Q a while but she always eventually works her way over to Y's new location and it all starts up again!  It can be very entertaining to watch.

So tonight when Y asked to play her ABC board game with me I sat down on the floor with her and gave Q a different toy to play with.  But as evidenced by the photos below she was not interested in  that toy at all - she wanted to play with us!  She was surprisingly gentle with everything and didn't even try to put anything in her mouth.  After watching us move the pieces around the board she started trying it as well.  She's very perceptive and never misses a beat, that's for sure!

I hear this sentence many, many times in a week and when I have the opportunity to stay close at hand and supervise, I will allow Y to do it.  But it's not as easy as it once was.  It used to be that Y would make the request, she'd sit on the couch, and I'd place the Boppy pillow around her and then lay Q on it.

Those were the days before Q became active.  Now she wants to sit up, she has no interest in laying much anymore and thus it's a little more challenging for Y to hold her.  .And even more challenging to get a decent picture of the two.  Not to mention that while she's sitting up she constantly trying to find a way to get her feet in her mouth.

We were given a picture frame at Christmas which says, "The Girls" and I've desperately been trying to snap a picture that I can have printed up to put inside it but it is proving to be rather difficult!  But it's just as well I suppose, we plan on taking outdoor family photos this spring and so whatever photo I could take would undoubtedly be replaced by one of those.

It's Happening...

Before we started trying to get pregnant, during my entire pregnancy and even after Q was born I spent a lot of time worrying about how Y would react to and treat Q.  When we first brought Q home Y tottered between being overly affectionate towards Q and being pretty mean to her - pulling her hair, hitting her, pretty much anything that she knew would make Q cry.  But more recently she's really started to show much more affection towards her baby sister, and this is more of a gentle affection!

Each morning while I prepare breakfast for Y and myself I put Q in her swing.  Well while I am making breakfast Y has started pulling up her rocking chair in front of the swing and "reading" to Q based on the pictures in the book.  Here she is reading her Thumbelina and I'm not sure how obvious it is in this photo but they are both smiling.

These are the moments when I love my job the most!
